Fat Cat Oil Guy

How is it that the government with all of its might has not yet fixed the BP oil spill? Why hasn’t it sucked up all that ‘liquid evil’ and made everything right? Where has Obama been while the fat cat oil company executives have been sitting around puffing on their big cigars, doing nothing and laughing at the drowning pelicans? It must be time for the president to kick ass and take names, or put a boot on some throats. Apparently when government does not immediately rescue the world from a disaster, it must only be because it hasn’t kicked enough ass!

Obviously, that is ridiculous, but sometimes this is what is expected of the government by the far left. When government gets elevated to a god-like presence, expected to solve all of the ills of the world and save us from disaster and ourselves, this is what happens. All powerful, provider, facilitator of social justice! Politicians and Hollywood have been happy to perpetuate this idea in order to advance a political ideology or to grow their power. But is it true? Can the government make everything right, like God? Of course not.

Government cannot stop disasters from happening, or rescue everyone from harms way. It cannot assure universal fairness and equity, prevent bad things from happening or provide for all of our needs. It is a big, bureaucratic, political megalith of people. It has a role, but often carries that role out with systemic inefficiency and slow movement. This certainly does not mean that some institutions and individuals within them are incapable of great things. Law enforcement and fire fighters, our armed forces and others routinely commit acts of greatness and heroism, but this is more often from brave and exceptional behavior of the individual or group than the institution itself. It should be expected by any reasonable individual that to rely on government and not themselves is a recipe for failure or disaster.

So why is Obama talking about kicking ass then? Because the president must capitulate to the ones he feels beholden to for helping him get elected. The far-left loons who believe that government is god and can solve all problems. This ludicrous expectation even has Obama quite frustrated. Maybe it is time for him to ‘kick some ass’ of those on the left who expect this nonsense.
