My Vote for Obamateurism of the Year

Almost every day since mid-March, Ed Morrissey of the website HotAir.com has been featuring an “Obamateurism of the Day“. Inspired by Jacob Weisberg’s continued Bushisms in Slate, Morrissey had agreed to provide the balance:

Since Slate seems to have conceded the field and decided to remain locked in the past, I’ll fill the gap here at Hot Air. As often as we have material, I’ll post an Obamateurism of the Day right here at Hot Air. If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamaism. I have the separate account ready now, and I’ll post the funniest and most embarrassing rhetorical stumbles by The One over the next four years. Unlike Jacob Weisberg, though, I’ll give it up once Obama leaves office.

There have been some pretty good ones throughout the year, and today, he is looking for readers to vote for the number one Obamateurism of the Year. Here are the choices:

What was the Obamateurism of the Year?

  • Obama bows to Saudi King Abdullah
  • Warning on deficits and spending while pushing big-spending programs
  • Change in Iran coming because “Obviously, after the speech I made in Cairo…”
  • Obama opines on Gates arrest without “having all the facts”
  • Throwing Poland under the bus on missile defense on 70th anniversary of Soviet invasion
  • Obama goes to Copenhagen for Olympics (and comes home empty)
  • Giving 2 minutes of “shout-outs” before getting to the Fort Hood shooting
  • Obama talks to McChrystal once in 70 days while SEIU president visits once a week

obama-14

All are good selections, and many of them are fine examples of how an inexperienced and overconfident individual, in love with the sound of his own voice, can actually believe in his own myth created carefully by political advisors and nurtured by a sympathetic press.

Unfortunately, I can not vote for a single one of these Obamateurisms. My vote goes not to one single event, but to the combined inexperience of this self-loving professor from Chicago. My vote goes to his naiveté in protocol.

This list is long, and started right upon entering office. Throughout the year, we have blogged about many of these. I can remember a few more, but obviously, this is only the short list, and in no particular order:

obama-13

  • Returning the Winston Churchill bust to London
  • Not holding a joint press conference with PM Gordon Brown
  • Giving US DVD’s to the PM of England
  • Giving an iPod to the Queen of England with Obama speeches on it
  • Hugging the Queen of England (Michelle)
  • Abandoning the Poles and the Czechs
  • “Reset” button with wrong translation of Russian word
  • Bowing to the Emperor of Japan
  • Bowing to the King of Saudi Arabia
  • Saluting the flag of Ghana
  • Telling the Indian PM that being Obama’s first state visit is an honor
  • Accepting a propaganda book and handshake from Hugo Chavez
  • Not supporting constitutional process in Honduras, but instead the usurper Zelaya

I am sure there are many more, and I would be happy to see any additions in the comments section.

Hopefully, the President has fired all the incompetent folks in the Protocol Office by now, and 2010 will be a new and less embarrassing year. It is time for President Obama to understand his position in this nation and the world, and stop confusing the prestige of the Office of the President with his own ego.

Maybe he can also take an example from his predecessor and start taking responsibility for his own presidency, instead of constantly blaming the former President for all his woes.

Come on Windbag, it’s only been nearly a year. Can’t you get past your obvious partisanship and give the man a chance. When will your bias end……

    Seriously, good list.
