Plunge in CO2 Emissions from Recession Proves Destroying Industrialism Works!

Good news for Global Warming Climate Change alarmists: The Global Recession is reducing worldwide CO2 emissions, WOO HOO!
Maybe if we destroy the industrialized world’s economies even more with Cap and Trade boondoggles and taxes, we could get an even bigger reduction! I am starting to do my part.

From the Mother Nature Network Website:

thumbs-up-hippieGlobal financial crisis has a silver lining in the form of reduced greenhouse gas emissions, according to new study.

The international economic recession has led to the steepest drop in greenhouse gas emissions in 40 years, according to a new study by the International Energy Agency. Emissions fell by approximately 2.6 percent, an ‘unprecedented’ decline that the IEA highlights as a chance to get a leg up on the fight against climate change.

Falling industrial output is the biggest factor in the drop, but carbon trading schemes and lack of financing for new coal-fired power plants have also played a role. Europe’s target to cut emissions by 20 percent by 2020, China’s energy efficiency policies and U.S. car emission standards are cited as having a particularly notable effect.

This year’s decline in emissions will well exceed the 1.3 percent drop that followed the oil crisis in 1981.

The new data will play a role in discussions among world leaders at the climate change conference in Copenhagen this December, as they attempt to agree upon a new climate pact to replace the Kyoto Protocol for 2012.

Dude, I am building myself a bicycle made of bamboo and hemp to help destroy those evil CO2 Monsters! What are you doing, carbon pig?

It is quite interesting that Carbon trading is being cited as reason for reduced emission. Also on the list is an important future development (important in that it will affect the United States significantly) and that is China’s energy efficiency policies.

China is looking ahead to bucking the trend on the increased costs to energy imports. China will continue to accumulate foreign reserves while the US continues to give its money to its enemies in the form of oil purchases.

I have noted the strategic importance of getting off of oil before on this blog. I’d like to present an idea for discussion on C&T. My bet is that you have never thought of C&T in the following way before.

Today, the policy is to support (even encourage) pollution. The cost to polluter is nearly $0. The cost to everyone is heavy: few projects clean up pollution. When they do, like Boston, it cost nearly $14B (it included a highway and a tunnel). Pollution can be many things, but a major producer is coal and oil burning. This arrangement is socialism: every one pays so that some producers can make money.

The fair way to correct this misalignment is for producers to pay for their pollution. Naturally, they’ll pass those costs to the consumer, which is fair: you should pay for your own pollution.

Few conservatives would dream of taking personal responsibility for their own pollution.

Beyond paying for your own pollution is the shock to the economy. An alternative system is to let people buy and sell the right to pollute. The idea for C&T was born in the Reagan White House – it was a conservative idea – quite possibly one of the best ideas ever.

What’s it going to be: pollute as you want or personal responsibility?

Our country was also hit hard by the Economic Recession. At least we are seeing some signs of economic recovery now. I hope that we could recover soon from this recession.

I think we are also seeing some signs of recovery from the Economic Recession. Of course, we have no idea of how long it will take to completely recover, but some say it’s going to be longer than for the other recessions in decades. I also scanned an article yesterday that said business owners need a new set of tactics to do well during recovery.
