President to Mesmerize Congress and America into Supporting Obamacare

President Obama is getting ready to address a joint session of Congress in order to give one last push to his largely unpopular and fledgling health care reform program. The president has said the point of his speech would be to ensure that people understood exactly what was being proposed.

Uh, now he wants to somehow speak in detail?

He told ABC he wanted to “make sure that Democrats and Republicans understand that I’m open to new ideas, that we’re not being rigid and ideological about this thing but we do intend to get something done this year”.

What? Obama’s whole attempt at reform has been nothing but rigid and ideological. Here is Representative Mike McCarthy on Fox describing Democrats “Thanks but No Thanks” openness to working with Republicans:

This Obamacare pig of an idea has been wrapped in campaign platitudes, pushed by paid and free infomercials, driven by endless speeches, bludgeoned through by hired town hall union goons and now needs the big stage for an Obama charm assault. Who is he trying to convince? A congress that has combed over two bills (House and Senate) endlessly and passed them out of committee? Does he think the mesmerizing Obama Hopenchange charisma will win over non-believers, such as Blue Dog Democrats and a skeptical public? Or is it a last ditch to effort to convince the American public that somehow Obamacare won’t tax us and add to an already exploding budget deficit making us even more broke, while harpooning some of our largest industries during a recession?

President Obama, no more speeches, please. Check your socialist utopian ideology at the door and get all sides to the table to develop a plan that works for everyone. Yeah, right.

I can’t wait to hear the excellent speech. I have recorded it, and plan on watching it tonight. I am sure it is full of new ideas of how he will introduce tort reform into the legislation, and how he might take Comprehensive Health Care Reform off the table in order to do something more bipartisan, like doing things one at a time.

    tort reform is in.

The plan will cost the budget nothing, not one cent. It must be fully funded by premiums.

He isn’t going to kill the bill – that would be defeat. He invites Republicans to join in making bipartisan proposals.

The proposals were introduced several months ago and the time to do something bipartisan has always existed. I have said so myself several times. R’s just want to kill it.

Watch the speech an post what you like and don’t like about it.

    Yay, free healthcare!!! Woo-hoo!!

    Right.

    Buzz,

Do you have any basis for calling it free? You know better.

The speech was typical Obama stump. At one moment he gave nods to understanding the many concerns with his proposal, while in the next breath he bloviated about the necessity of these same things. It is nice to finally see that he is pushing bipartisanship but keep in mind the committees crafting the bills were largely closed to Republicans. Ultimately, he only cracked the door. Lets hope Democrats in congress heed this request and open it up to compromise, but I am not holding my breath.

I welcome his pledge to not sign a bill that adds one dime to the deficit. Congress will have to go back to the drawing board in order to do this, that will be interesting to see.

GOP picks “birther” to deliver the GOP response to President Obama’s address to the joint session of Congress – Louisiana Rep. Charles Boustany. The Washington Post says that it’s a “somewhat surprising pick in that he is little-known nationally and not part of the Republican leadership in Congress.”

I expected more from you Mike. Is that all you have?

Here is a quote from the Politico regarding Boustany:

As he prepared for his speech, Boustany found himself under fire from political opponents for suggesting at one point that he was unsure whether Obama was born in the United States.

Hell, I guess you can call me a birther if that is the definition.

When this issue first surfaced last fall, and Obama refused to release any information about his birth, I too was unsure whether Obama was born in the US. Since the story did not get much traction even in the more conservative media sources, I figured it was not a big deal.

This issue was not fully vetted before the election. When someone avoids an issue like the President did on this one, it conjures up wild speculation and conspiracy. All he had to do was produce his birth certificate and this would have died. This is much like Clinton and his sex scandal (although not as interesting) – that scandal would have gone away if he wouldn’t have lied about it. We all know the outcome of that debacle.

  • Mike said:

The Obama campaign released the birth certificate on or before June 2008. Exhaustive research has been made by Democrat and Republican opponents of Barack going back to at least early 2008.

Beyond the birth certificate is the simple logic of the birth announcements in Hawaii newspapers.

Not fully vetted? Who are you trying to fool?

  • NCViking (author) said:

Uh oh … Now what are those birthers up to.

  • Mike said:

    NC Viking,

I am surprised, and maybe I shouldn’t been, that you support or appear to support birthers. The document contains a very serious clue that it is not real.

Here is the sorry state of Republicans: an official document from the State of Hawaii, certified by the Governor of the state, is not good enough; a document by an unknown is.

I say let them have fun. The more the Republicans are associated with birthers the better.

    It was tongue-in-cheek.
