The No Longer Silent Majority

BY: NCViking
President Obama’s honeymoon is over so he needs to get his head out of the clouds and see what is happening on the street. Its 1992 all over again – this time on steroids. Back then, the public was fed up with the irresponsible deficit spending of both parties and was very concerned for the future. It was the main topic of concern that allowed an off-kilter, fiscal-minded third-party candidate (Ross Perot) to shake up American politics to its core, eventually leading to reform and budget surpluses. Even my Republican-for-life grandfather cast his last vote for Perot in protest to the irresponsibility of government. The anger crossed party lines. Déjà vu?
Today, a similar storm is brewing with the public. Ordinary folks are simply fed up with the government 1.) Spending recklessly; 2.) Institutionalizing corruption; and 3.) Treading on our freedom. What the current administration and down-and-out Republicans are not recognizing is that this anger crosses party lines. Protesters are not tools of some Republican conspiracy. Alternately, Obama was not elected because Americans wanted a leftist, socialized country. Americans are fed up with the government status quo – Republican and Democrat. People want real ‘hope’ and real ‘change’. Obama tapped into this with a nebulous, platitude-type pledge and won convincingly. He mistakenly believes this to be a mandate for liberalism, which it is not. Most Americans just want the following three things from their elected government: 1.) Fiscal responsibility; 2.) True honesty and public-centric efforts; 3.) Absolute, uncompromising protection of our freedom and liberty. Neither Democrats nor Republicans are offering this and the American people are getting quite restless, just like in 1992.
Most people are OK with paying taxes to government as long as it is reasonable, fair and see the benefits of doing so. Most would like government to function within its means. Though federal income tax is relatively low as compared to our neighbor Canada or Europe, this is not the only tax forced upon us. Americans are growing tired of an earned dollar being taxed from multiple directions into oblivion. This dollar gets federal tax, state tax, and local tax. Spend that dollar and it is taxed again. Die and leave the dollar to your kids, it gets taxed yet again. Own land? Tax. Ever rent a car? Tax, tax, tax, tax. Want to fish, own a gun or just camp? Need a license – tax. Own a car? Licensing and registration tax, gas tax, town sticker (tax), etc. Smoke? TAXITY TAX-TAX!! I own a small business and needed to register it with the state – tax; in my county three times (divided into three districts = three taxes, one county); and town for a home office fee (tax). My company’s main office is located in another state with a whole other set of taxes. All of these taxes and governments still need lotteries, bond offerings and out of control borrowing to make ends meet and of course to fund political payback, like expensive airports to nowhere.
Something is wrong here.
Good analysis rom Examiner.com:
The Libertarian National Committee spokesman Donny Ferguson expressed that the former community organizer, President Obama, must reconsider approving a government-sponsored marketing campaign which assaults communities for organizing, regardless of target. If he does not, he does not represent the will of the people.
Ferguson said; “Libertarians find it ironic a community organizer is now using the government to try and stop people from organizing their communities. Instead of using official edicts to smear, slander and intimidate everyday Americans into silence, Democrats should listen to the majority of Americans and drop their plans for a radical government takeover of their health care.”
While the Republican and Independent Parties may appear to lead representation of the people in this instance, they are not above reproach in this debacle. Many of their own have ignored basic American wants and needs and jumped on board the unprecedented legislation now coming out of Washington, doing so purely to add to their stores of political capital or to ensure their own re-elections.
The story here is not the Republican, Independent or Democrat side of the argument, as they are all sullied; it is an unquestionably legitimate reaction by the American people to retain their sovereignty over a government put in place to represent their will.
Our message remains unchanged; Sirs and Madams of the legislature do your job, the job we sent you to do. Represent out choices, read the bills you have written and without question do not forcibly fast-track legislation that will outlive our children and have wider reaching ramifications than you can possibly comprehend.
I just pulled out one part to keep this entry from being a novel, but the whole piece is good. I encourage all to follow the link and read the whole thing.
Americans are inherently rebellious and what you are witnessing is a growing rebellion against government and politics as usual. Democrats run the risk of getting booted and/or forcing another legitimate third party into the fray by their dismissal of dissent and lack of understanding its roots. Republicans run the risk of wrongly believing the movement is instep with them, which is not the case. More and more (now former) Republicans I speak with are loosely calling themselves Libertarian – could this be the third party movement that the Reform Party was not? Maybe, but what is apparent here is that this

Pres. Obama does not believe he has a mandate for liberalism — he just uses the fact he was elected to claim one. Like Bush before him. I agree –people are seething with pent-up anger at an irresponsible self-dealing Congress who uses tactics like passing gigantic bills they don’t read, inserting outrageous provisions in the bills so they can claim they’ve done when they remove only the very worst clause. People are seriously wondering who is really running this country and to what end. People are beginning to become alarmed, although not yet enough, about whether the USA will follow the Soviet Union down the debt crusher. Or whether their children and grandchildren will have any freeom left at all.
The Tea Parties and the Town Hall Confrontations are the most encouraging acts I’ve seen from busy Americans in a long time.
Angry about what?

Really.
Mike needs to find something reliable to post before he posts at all.
Anyone who is intelligent in the very slightest knows that the media he is quoting, “Huffington Post,” is in Obama’s hip pocket and idolizes him!
The Huffington Post, like CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, POLITICO, and etc. are all corrupt liberalisms greatest allies, and have lied to the public prior to the “O” getting elected, through the entire election, and ever since the election. They are incapable of uttering a single truth when it comes to the political arena!
Well Mr Rick,
Your reply is a demonstration of a disturbing trend by the authors on this blog. They often complain that the messenger is being attacked, while themselves attacking the messenger.
You should discuss the message, not the media.
The authors on this blog (AOTB) value The Heritage Foundation; I find them easy to debunk.
You post viewpoints that parallel Michelle Malkin’s point of view; I add facts and demonstrate the nonsense of your argument.
The pattern is I discuss the facts, the message, the point of view. You cackle about media. You complain about its perceived fairness.
You attack the media because you cannot discourse on facts.
You wax on revolution, tea parties, you believe in mobs. Try facts, reason.
