With my professional position I have had a lot of interaction over the years with Canadian citizens – mostly residents of Ontario. The uninformed people that buy the government line that “hey, my health care if paid for!” forget that they pay both a provincial (PST) and governmental (GST) tax on all the goods and services they purchase. Sometimes these taxes can be upwards of 15% not including the high income tax.  They pay alright, just not upfront.

What do they get for their hard earned tax money? Reduced care, reduced choices and poor service.

I realize that Windbag and Viking usually beat me to the punch in posting videos by the unofficial comedian of The Great Illuminator. I guess I’ll get the jump this time.

I don’t think I can illustrate the Canadian system any better than Mr. Crowder did in his video presentation. His stories mimic many stories I have personally been told by Canadian citizens wishing to receive treatment – especially with surgical cases. A personal friend had to have back surgery and waited eight months to receive that surgery. The eight months was a reduced amount of time (than normal) because she is a physician – professional courtesy I believe. How productive can you be with a treatable problem that is not treated in a timely fashion?

Are we heading towards a system like Canada? I hope not.  Some have suggested that we are heading toward some type of pseudo-government system and a private system. I wonder how long the private option will be operational when the public option is available.

According to Gallup, it seems that the citizenry has very little confidence in the ability of the government to craft an effective and efficient solution. What should we take from this? How about taking time to read the proposed legislation instead of adhering to some artificial “deadline” that just has to be met.

DSM at Reboot Congress writes:

Here’s a one-and-a-half minute excerpt from Russ Carnahan’s (D-MO) health care forum on Monday. There are a couple of humorous moments from the event, and then it concludes with TheBlackSphere.net — Kevin Jackson — asking: “If it’s so good why doesn’t Congress have to be on it?”

Good question Mr. Jackson.  I’ll bet that these Senators and Representatives will receive an earful from their constituents over the August break like the video from numerous town meetings. At least I hope so.

***UPDATE***

Timing is a funny thing.  I am not in a habit of watching much on network TV so I missed this 20/20 report on the Canadian health care system.  This video goes right along with the “funny” Steven Crowder video above.   Thought I should share.

Let’s hope it’s all just a bad dream.
