How’s That “Working With Allies” Thing Working For You?

BY: WC WINDBAG
Jake Tapper had a great post today demonstrating, yet again, what “working with our allies” means. A sample:
The G-8 leaders will issue a joint statement this evening expressing serious concerns about the post-election violence in Iran, as well as its continued pursuit of nuclear weapons, but will not push for new economic sanctions or tougher enforcement of those that exist, an Obama administration source told ABC News this afternoon.
The statement will “reflect growing impatience” among world leaders, the source said, but it will not call for direct ramifications or contest the election results.

Ah, perhaps a tersely worded statement, full of threats of further memos and angry speeches at the UN Security Council… that’s what they could do. Now, that will show them.
Maybe President Obama will figure out what going-it-alone means really soon. It would just be yet another Bush-era policy that candidate Obama criticized, but has decided to go along with in the end.
More importantly, the G-8 must get back to the important business at hand:
This afternoon in Italy G-8 leaders issued statements addressing economic growth, climate change, and pushing countries that previously pledged aid to developing nations but have yet to deliver by publicizing those commitments.
Climate change? We already know how that will ultimately shake out on the world stage.
Truthfully, I would rather talk about Governor Sanford.
