Ensign’s Affair May Prove To Be Pro-Romney

Of course we are fair and balanced at the Great Illuminator. When we see corruption and wrong doing, we will point it out.
That being said, the Ensign affair has taken one of the more promising potential Presidential candidates out of the race for 2012. Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) had the good looks, charm, and on-camera charisma to possibly mount a successful Presidential campaign in this age of 24-hour media.
Of course, the idiot decided to do what people in power often do… abuse it, probably hurting the GOP in the process. He had an affair with a married woman… who cares if he himself was separated at the time. That does not mitigate his immorality, in my humble opinion. What makes it even more sickening to me is that these families were close. Both the cheating spouse and her husband were on the Senator’s staff. The families lived near each other and were friends. Their kids go to school together. It’s disgusting.
Doug Hampton, the previously mentioned spouse, desperate for attention when all else failed, wrote a letter to Fox News’ Megyn Kelly to expose the affair:
I love this country and considered it a great privilege to work in the US (sic) Senate. I am bringing this to you and Fox News to address this professionally and correctly. I could have sought the most liberal, Republican hating media to expose this story, but there are people’s lives at stake and justice is about proper process as well as outcome. Senator Ensign has no business serving in the US (sic) Senate anymore! I will send you and (sic) email as well as leave you and your staff messages in an attempt to meet you and your team as soon as possible. I live and work in Nevada but can be in New York within hours, I look forward to your help.
Not exactly a card-carrying Democrat foaming at the mouth.
As a result, Ensign was forced to resign from his leadership position, crushed any chances of running for President in 2012, and more importantly, he lost the respect and admiration of those who looked up to him across the nation. I’ll admit, I was one of them. I really liked him. Now< I hope he goes away.
Hot Air quoted Andy Levy on the hypocrisy:
Preaching about the sanctity of marriage while cheating on your wife is the same as a Treasury Secretary not paying his taxes.
Hot Air also linked to another post on Think Progress that pointed out how Ensign railed against colleagues David Vitter (R-LA), Larry Craig (R-ID), and former President Bill Clinton over their “indiscretions.” In hindsight, his hypocrisy is not just glaring, it is annoying. It is not difficult to get cynical over this typical Washington behavior.
I mean, doesn’t anyone stay faithful to their spouse anymore?

Oh yeah… how about that guy who ran the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City? That guy who ran for President in 2008 and fully supported the nominee when it was clear he would not win? That man who loves his wife and kids and is smarted than all get-out? You know, that Mitt Romney fellow. It would be clear to me that a strong family man with unimpeachable moral values and strong economic credentials would be a valuable commodity for the GOP in 2012.
Any other opinions?

This is NOT just another typical, garden-variety, adulterous affair!
Ensign, by his own admission, is guilty of the crime of sexual harrassment! And given, again by Ensign his admission that his sexual harrassment went on for months – one has to ask the obvious question:
“Is U. S. Senator, John Ensign, (Republican-NV) also guilty of the crime of STALKING and being a SEXUAL PREDATOR?”
Johnathan… I completely agree with you. If this went down as described by the former staffers, then you are right on the money. Worst yet, the many sitting Senators whose behavior mirrors Ensign’s will know nothing, see nothing, and do nothing.
As a father of girl who will someday grow up to be a woman, it bothers me at the casual manner these accusations are being handled.
It has always been a wonder why those in Washington (in both parties)are many times silent on these type of issues. Maybe it hits too close to home…..
Pretty nice post. I just came across your blog and wanted to say
that I’ve really enjoyed reading your posts. Anyway
I’ll be subscribing to your blog and I hope you write again soon!
What, no post of Gov Sanford? In a twist on an old joke, “It was so cold last night, Republicans slept in their own beds.”
Actually, that one is in the works. I had baseball and swimming today, and no time for blogging.
