Bang the Gong: Sotomayor Must Go!

I’m sorry, despite the misleading title of this post, I guess I can’t get myself as worked up as fellow conservatives on the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. I pulled up a few blogs here and there (and also here and here) that did not like the nomination, and others that just loved it.

The fact of the matter is America has recently elected a very liberal Democrat to be President, and it is he who has the right to nominate the appointee to the Court. The Senate has the duty to review and either confirm or reject the nomination, and that court is made up of 59 (likely soon to be 60) Democrats… a filibuster proof majority. Her eventual appointment also changes almost nothing as it comes to liberal activism, or to the likely voting patterns of the Court in the future. The Court will still be a sliding 5-4 balance, with a moderate conservative (Anthony Kennedy) being the moving target. Roberts, Scalia, Thomas, and Alito are solid conservatives, while Stevens, Ginsburg, and Breyer will vote consistently with Sotomayor as solid liberals. The only difference is that Sotomayor will be on the Court for the next 20-30 years.

I understand why there is a fuss now. Judge Sotomayor’s record has a wee bit of activism and SCOTUS reversals in it, and she has a couple of great quotes to back up her “racist” beliefs, and her need to make policy from the bench. Taking the latter, I find her candid comments quite illuminating:

Second, after hearing Rush Limbaugh clearly define why he thought her following comment was racist:

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

The explanation of one of her supporters is as clear as mud:

These objections need to be brought forward to let the American people know who President Obama has and will continue to nominate to the bench. Talking heads should also beat the drum, saying how Sotomayor is (rightly) wrong for America. Illumination through intense GOP scrutiny should occur throughout the nomination.

As for me, I will just sit back and not get my blood pressure out of whack, because with 59-60 Democratic Senators ready to vote, the eventually seating of Sotomayor is likely a fait accompli.

What about putting someone like Attorney Richard Fine into United States Supreme Court? Fine exposed corruption in California; Los Angeles County has been paying judges illegal money on top of their regular salaries. What a coincidence that only a few cases against the county, out of thousands filed, were won in the past few years.

I don’t think there are any ethical judges out there. If there were, they would have exposed the corruption going on around them by now… it’s their duty you know. There’s a petition to make Richard Fine the people’s nominee! I’ve posted it at my website.

In addition to her vast experience on the bench, and in between work with New York University School of Law and a lecturer at Columbia Law School, She also is on the National Council of ” La Raza.”

So does this mean a white supremacist or black panther member would also make a good pick? Afterall, they can show empathy. But to what race? To what agenda?

This country has lost it’s mind! What is going on here??
