So… What is Funny? How About Olby!

Can we all laugh at ourselves, or just the other guy?
Mike, this blog’s most frequent commenter, and I got into it pretty good in one of my previous posts where he brought up what he thought was and was not funny. In his response, he listed a couple (one and two) videos he thought were funny, challenging my conservative biases and filters.
Personally, I thought both are hilarious. The first is a video from the Onion website was excellent parody about the McCain campaign. I love the Onion’s video site… which I have even used before as a feature on this site. The second is also funny… a Will Ferrell impersonation of George W. Bush, an imitation (according to a trusted source who has first-hand knowledge of the Bush family) even the former President finds funny.
We have to be able to laugh not only at those we disagree with, but also at ourselves. I personally think that self-deprecation (at our own expense, not at others) is healthy. Many people do not have this ability, or use self deprecation as a cover to actually lampoon others, and that is a bit sad.
Nonetheless, I also have a great time laughing at those who take themselves too serious. One such person is Keith Olbermann. When I was in college, I loved watching Keith on ESPN, and he was a great match up with Dan Patrick. It was interesting to hear later that he had a personality problem that made it difficult to get along with his co-workers and the show staff. It did not make sense to me until I first witnessed him on his show on MS-NBC.
Others have done a good job at skewering his political thought process, his ego, and his reasoning, especially Olby Watch website. This is a great site to witness this Modern-Day Murrow have his daily meltdown on the Countdown.
Today’s installment, first seen by me on Hot Air is a grand video showing Keith in his full glory. Allahpundit describes the video like so:
An instant classic from Olby Watch, worth filing away for the next time our modern-day Murrow decides to lecture Glenn Beck on the dangers of demagoguery and demonization. On the right, cast in the role of the “voice of reason”: A man well practiced at race-baiting and known to reach for Slobodan Milosevic analogies when describing the GOP’s campaign tactics. On the left, in the role of sober newsman: A guy given to comparing conservatives to jihadists and calling his chief competitors “worse than Al Qaeda.” Serious primetime political discussion, MSNBC-style.
Here is the video:
Add to the fact that Keith has made his latest Worst Person in the World the website Twitter, then you realize that one video only scratches the surface of this man’s madness.
So yes… I believe Will Ferrell, the Onion, and even other lefty comedians (like Tina Fey and David Letterman) are funny, even when they rip on my guy. Can the Left say the same thing about Steven Crowder?
Speaking of Crowder, here is his latest:
Not his best, but still funny!
