Dems Considering Force-Feed of Universal (DMV) Health Care

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Obama and Congressional Democrats are considering use of a parliamentary tactic known as “reconciliation” to force Universal DMV Care down our throats. The tactic, used in the past by W and Bubba for pushing tax policy, would only require 51 votes in the Senate and remove the option of filibuster. It is not an unusual move for a president to use reconciliation to help pass major campaign initiatives, but this one is not a simple tax cut or hike. This one requires significant debate because of the vast societal implications for businesses, the health care sector, and ultimately all of us. Not to mention busting an already busted budget.

“This is the most significant public-policy pursuit in our time, for taxes, for spending and for all Americans, and they want to do it virtually without debate and without amendment,” said New Hampshire Sen. Judd Gregg, the senior Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.

“If the Democrats insist on moving forward alone, no amount of bipartisan rhetoric will be able to cover up the stench of these highly partisan and draconian tactics,” said Antonia Ferrier, a spokeswoman for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R., Ohio).

If you don’t like it, Slow Joe will come to your city and tell you how dumb you are.

Get ready to take a number.

Our taxes pay the health care for every government employee. Police, senators, military, the list goes on and on. Why is health care for the taxpayer who once again is being forced to pay the band a bad idea? Ever witnessed what a health care company does to a medical bill?Ever been to a hospital to complain about these costs yourself? Several problems would be solved here. First everyone is now covered, meaning health care policies would go down (large groups pay less per person).Second health care providers pay would be kept in check. Third the drug costs would be lowered.Collaterally, I am sure such a system would reduce mal-practice suits, thereby reducing the mal-practice insurance costs for the providers. Who pays? The likes of AIG, who just filed suit against the government for taxes. Would that not be biting the hand that is feeding them?

Anytime government tries to run something, especially of this magnitude, expect it to be lousy with rationing and bureaucrats making decisions about your health. The free market is what makes American health care the best in the world. Free market ideas and solutions are the only way to ensure this excellence is not diminished while attempting to cover all.

Amazing, despite all of the hub bub, some great non-insurance alternatives are already popping up for minor sickness and injury. I go to one here in NC for convenience, right inside a CVS ($65 and out in 10 min) – it rules! We can do much better than turning our health care system into the DMV.

My first thought is, if you want to see what universal health care looks like, see Canada. I am always shocked to hear that the smallish city of Pittsburgh has more CT machines (or is it MRI machines) than all of Canada. Waiting in lines… sometimes months for the most basic of care. Costs also do not go down in an environment of moral hazard. If my “insurance” is paying for it, I have no incentive to take care of myself. The private market values the price of a policy based upon costs and profit, trying to lower both to get more demand for their product. There is no incentive for the government to increase efficiency since they will just tax to make up the difference.

If we go universal, I will be you a dime and a dozen donuts that Congress will exempt themselves from it, because they know it will be crap.
