Is ‘Fairness Doctrine’ a Red Steak Diversion for Guard Dogs on the Right?; UPDATE: Rush Takes a Big Bite

It seems Democrats are bringing up reviving the Fairness Doctrine over and over and over and over. Now Obama has reaffirmed he is against the Fairness Doctrine after his minions, of course, spun a little doubt. Are Democrats just tossing out a big, fat red steak to the guard dogs on the right to keep them occupied? Dems have quite an agenda ahead and calls to revivie the Fairness Doctrine, which would likely never pass, creates a great distraction. Bills like SCHIP, Lilly Ledbetter, Employee Free Choice, boosting stem cell research, Lieberman-Warner and Global Warming Climate Change crap and other hot-button issues will get less dissonance from Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Hugh Hewitt, Dennis Prager and others when they devote programming to needlessly debate the Fairness Doctrine.

Arguments about programming choices, free speech and the right (or lack thereof) to broadcast that speech with several hundred thousand watts of force can generate a deep and contentious debate. One that creates ideal cover for Dems and the ‘Change’ they plan to implement. I just hope that voices on the right don’t take the bait. So far they, and admittedly the writers of this blog, are feasting with a dash of A-1.

Mmmmmmm … steak …

UPDATE

Looks like the Dems have served up a Prime Rib with this one! Rush Limbaugh takes a big bite of the Fairness Doctrine steak by calling out Obama in the Wall Street Journal.

From HotAir.com:

Rush to Obama: Declare yourself on free political speech
Rush Limbaugh throws down another challenge to Barack Obama on the pages of the Wall Street Journal, this time on the Fairness Doctrine — and any other attempts to limit political speech by government fiat. Rush reminds Obama of his studies of the Constitution at Harvard Law and asks him to justify how the FCC can interfere with the exercise of political speech. He also reminds Obama that interference in this case could result in the economic collapse of a significant part of the radio industry, and cost thousands of people their jobs:

Can’t resist. Too juicy, too irresistible. Must take a bite.

Love the steak pictures. Give it to me baby. We obviously can not resist either since both you and I have commented on this in the past.

President Obama’s direct denial seems to have forced Rushbo’s hand, and he’s admitted its not really the Fairness Doctrine, per se.

I think this is really about fear by the rightwing media conglomerates that they’ll be called out for their massive cutbacks and degradation of service by the FCC.

Yet Democrats are the ones that keep bringing it up. Republican lawmakers, like Jim DeMint are now trying to force a vote on The Broadcaster Freedom Act this week, which would call the Democrats bluff on The Fairness Doctrine.

I’ll take mine with a little horseradish.
